Hillsborough considering updates to Future Land Use Plan, offering open houses

HILLSBOROUGH – The Town of Hillsborough is considering updates to its Future  Land Use Plan and is hosting two open houses in advance of a public  hearing.

The proposed updates are a first step toward a variety of  jurisdiction changes with Orange County that were agreed to conceptually in 2006  with the adoption of the Hillsborough-Orange County Strategic Growth Plan. The  revisions include land use designations for areas outside the town’s current  jurisdiction, with the designations indicating the range of uses the town would  favor in an area.

The town’s two open houses will offer interested  citizens and property owners a chance to discuss the plan and its impacts with  staff in an informal setting. The drop-in sessions, which will include  opportunities to comment and ask questions, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.  Thursday, with two regional transportation topics also up for discussion and  Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Both sessions will be in the Town Barn on  the Town Hall campus, 101 E. Orange St. Parking is accessed from East Corbin  Street, one block north of East Orange Street.

If you can’t attend either  open house but your neighborhood or civic group would like a presentation,  please request Planning Director Margaret Hauth’s attendance by contacting her  with meeting date and time options via e-mail or phone at 919-732-1270, ext.  86.

The Board of Commissioners and Planning Board will conduct a public  hearing on the draft plan at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Town Barn.

All  comments received in writing before the public hearing will be compiled and  presented as part of the public hearing process.

If the hearing is  completed on Oct. 18, the Planning Board will consider making a recommendation  on Nov. 15 and the Board of Commissioners will consider adoption on Dec.  10.
