Where can your product(s) be found:

What year was your business founded/established? 1980

What made you decide to open your business?
After working as a Hospital Administrator for years, I became complacent with the atmosphere of what I perceived as financial and ethical issues. My compassion and strong ethics inspired me to build a company where my employees are respected and customers are always first priority.

What makes your business unique?
The people I work with are committed, caring and focused on serving our customers. Their focus is not on upselling or getting more sales for our business. We have Customer Care Professionals that represent our customers’ voices in the business and do whatever they can to solve our customers’ problems.

We want the customers to be happy with their purchases or questions. We strive to under-promise and over-deliver because most of our customers depend on us to deliver their products when they need them. We do that by investing in training, creating a supportive and fun work environment where we can succeed together.

What do you wish your local neighbors (potential customers) knew about your business?
We don’t have a showroom or storefront, but we do have experts that will always be available to assist a customer locally or nationally in choosing the best product for their needs. While we are not a local business in the general sense of the word (less than 1% of our business comes locally), I do wish that our potential customers understood our focus on helping them get what they need, much better. We don’t just “warehouse items” and sell them on the web. We sell very esoteric products and the people I work with have the dedication it takes to make Carrot-Top number one in customer service and product knowledge.

What are your next goals for your business (any exciting expansion plans or new product/services)?
As CEO, I am 69 years old. The most significant goal is to pass the business on to another generation in my family. In the event that does not occur, I need to focus on alternatives for retaining a business that employs over 40 people in Orange County. I am dedicated to providing a business that will live on long after I step away from it. Some of my employees have been with me since the beginning and I want to make sure they continue to be a part of Carrot-Top’s success.

If someone were to give you $100,000 to invest in your business, how would you spend it?
Since Carrot-Top began in 1980, we have primarily been a catalog based company. Up until a few years ago, that is where we have always invested the most time and money to acquire new and retain existing customers. The internet has changed everything. If I was gifted $100,000 to invest, I would focus on ramping up all online channels where we have seen significant growth. That’s the only way forward.
